Deaf Awareness Week - Monday 14th May to Sunday 20th May 2018!
The UK Council on Deafness (UKCoD) is an umbrella body for voluntary organisations working with deaf people in the UK, who has a mission to assist organisations to maximise the positive impact they have for deaf people. A recent Annual Population survey by the Office of National Statistics of people experiencing difficulties in hearing showed that less than half of adults whose main health problem is difficulty in hearing, were in full time employment.
Whether a person who is deaf or has hearing loss, the impact on their lives can be profound in a way a person with full hearing may struggle to understand. There are many organisations who have joined efforts to give equal access to all parts of our society, such as public services, such as education, health and social care, policing and justice, to name only a few.
There are lots of ways to get involved with fundraising and improving awareness throughout the week in the UK. Simply Google "Deaf Council" for more information on how you can get involved. There are links to other services, such as the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS), NHS Choices, Office for National Statistics and Action on Hearing Loss organisations.
