Mental Health Awareness Week 2018 - Monday 14th May to Sunday 20th May 2018
We live and work in a world that is continuing to open up discussions and understanding those with mental health issues, and this week aims to continue this, focussing on a major issue each year. Organised by the Mental Health Foundation, the week in 2018 will focus on stress, and runs from Monday 14th May 2018 to Sunday 20th May 2018.
Research shows that 16 million people experience a mental health problem each year and stress is a key factor. By tackling stress, we can go a long way to tackle mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression, and in some instance, self-harm and suicide.
This year, the MHF hope to encourage people to have a "Curry and Chaat", a fundraising event asking promoters to cook a curry, to chat with friends and fundraise. In doing so, it hopes to encourage people to talk about their mental health, whether they are experiencing any issues or not. The Foundation offers stories of survivors who have overcome severe depression for example, and highlights why community fundraising initiatives like this are so important.
